CASA Lake County

Where We Serve:

Give Time (volunteer opportunities)

Preferred Month: On-going

How you can help: CASA Lake County is in need of more volunteer advocates to meet our goal of providing an advocate to every foster child in Lake County. Readers can help our cause by applying to become a volunteer if they meet our criteria, and/or spreading the word about our organization to friends and family.

Interested volunteers should submit an application on our website www.casalakecounty.com, after which they will be contacted for an interview. If selected, volunteers would attend a 40 hour pre-service training. Once volunteers are matched with a child(ren), they should expect to commit to a minimum of one visit with the child(ren) per month, (currently virtual.) In addition, we ask for a minimum two-year commitment from volunteers, as we try to keep advocates on their case until case closure – which can be anywhere from months to years. Though most visits are being conducted virtually due to Covid, once back in person, volunteers can expect to travel to the child(rens) placement – anywhere within Lake County or surrounding counties.

Willow House

Where We Serve:

Give Support (monetary donations)

Preferred Month: May

How you can help: May is Mental Health Awareness Month and grieving the death of a loved one creates complex thoughts and feelings that can effect ones mental health in a negative way. Especially for children and teens, unaddressed grief can have negative consequences, such as depression, anxiety and the feeling of isolation. Your readers can help our mission by giving monetary donations to support our Expressive Arts Program for youth ages 3-18. Activities such as drawing, painting, sculpting, creating memorials, song writing, dance and yoga aid in developing healthy coping skills. Art can give a voice to a child’s grief. This program (and all of our programs) is offered at no cost to grieving families because of the generous donations made by individuals, corporations and foundations. Due to COVID-19, our Expressive Arts sessions are currently held virtually one time per month.
